The Future of the Internet

When I was 5 years old, I would love watching The Little Mermaid on VHS. When the movie would end, I would not feel sad, but excited because I would be able to put the VHS on a machine that would whirl around the tape, making it rewind to the beginning. The buzzing of the machine sounded as if there were a million bees surrounding me and it would transmit its energy to me.  However, technology has been transformed to be a silent presence in a person’s life. The internet is evolving the world and will continue to become a greater part of society.

I remember the days in which we used to have to fight a battle with our parents to let us use the internet because it would interfere with the phone line. We would have to negotiate a deal for when to use the internet for brief moments at a time. Now, we can use the phone and the internet at the same time! It’s amazing to see how easy it is for us to access the internet. We are able to connect to wireless free internet on our iPods, our smartphones, our laptops, and even in our cars! The internet is everywhere for us to use as more and more devices are made to support internet capabilities. More and more of our homework assignments and projects are being based off of websites that can be found through the internet. Even many college applications and scholarships are available through the internet. The internet is becoming an increasingly essential part of a person’s life.

So as the internet becomes a greater part of a person’s life, what will happen in 10 years? Instead of visiting our family members or calling them through the phone, we will be using the internet to video chat with them. The internet will become a greater part of our world because it will increase its influence on the relationships that we make with others. We will have to start building business connections through the internet because of the increasing popularity of social networks.  People will come to rely more and more on the internet for information. I predict that as more information is added to the internet and as more websites are created, the internet will become monitored. As people continue to use the internet, they will want to make sure that they are visiting websites that are safe and accurate. In order to do so, the internet will have to be monitored in order to prevent “fake” and inaccurate websites from being made. Businesses will want to make sure that their products are not being reproduced illegally through the internet, so the internet will have to be monitored.

From living in a time where we had to choose over the phone and the internet, we are moving toward a time where the internet will become a necessity and will be more secure than ever.
